Portrait Please, 2015. Subtitle and Graphite on Paper, 42x30 cm (Each)
Sometimes people around me ask me to drawing their own portrait, when I introduce myself as studying art. It was hard to refuse them because of my social status in South Korea. So I decided to keep doing that, while try to make that experience my career.
In the result of that, I recalled the memories about the moment of drawing someone's face that I didn't want to do and drew their face depending on only memories like police draws an identikit. After that, I projected the subtitle on the portraits which including what the said to me when they took their portrait from me. I synchronise each statements on particular words "초상화 좀(Portrait Please)" to explain why I drew their faces in same way to spectators.
Here happens an ironic. that time of feeling frustrated and annoyed for me changes into stable and pleasant moment for spectators.
